No, but think about it, first you have pancakes, which are just round and flat. Then someone adds a bit of flair to that, and created waffles, with little pockets to put stuff in. Then someone else comes along, and ups the ante yet again, by adding fruit. Then the Belgians come and totally blow everyone else out of the water by adding fruit AND whipped cream, combining many facets of the food pyramid into one breakfast food. If thats not sophistication then I don't know what is.
