Well I could go along with that except there is a phenomenon called OBE- Out of body experience
That's when a person in an accident or even just relaxed or unfortunately on drugs or just happy or in some emotional state sees themselves and their environment from outside of their body. Even when they are 'clinically dead' with no brain activity this phenom has been recorded on a vast basis. I could count it off as a hallucination but bona fide doctors are given details by the patient about goings on in the room or down the hallway or elsewhere.
Soldiers in combat have far too many stories the same. If it weren't for the accurate descriptions from other locations that are verified on the scene I would count it off as delusion.
So I don't think you 'need' a brain to be conscious, I think it's probably the other way around or neither. It's something worth studying for sure.
