My flatmate is majorly into Japanese and Chinese cinema so I have seen a lot over the last year or so. Japanese cinema is suffering from the same Hollywood remake syndrome as French cinema has in the past. The Japanese do 'creepy' horror very well and it just gets destroyed when Hollywood glosses it up.
