Ofcourse, if you don't watch many films, it isn't all that bad, because the concepts and dialogues being repeated over and over again in slightly different forms are fairly good. The lack of originality only becomes really offensive when you are exposed to it too often. It's a sad fact that one who wants to watch some original and authentic French films is still best off with the likes of Godard and Renoir.

Do you have any idea of how many " so called " american films are actually remake of french films ???? No, I'm not talking about " Dumb & Dumber" or " Spider man " .... that's is pure american.....

Now, Renoir & Godard are great, and it some happens that they obtain notoriety in the US, so you mention them...

But what about Tavernier, Labro, Renais, Varda, Sautet, and so on ....
