Same thing happened to me when I was new to the phone.. Almost threw it out the window. I have one of those slim covers with the belt clip. If you are using one, make sure you slide it on the right way.. IT's hard to tell which end of the cover is right side up but if you do it wrong part of the cover barely pushes on the volume button and that was causing the problem.
