One of the stories that's told to all salesmen is the story of the guy who invented the plain paper copier. He hiked it around loads of companies including all the big copier companies and electrical ones. They were all using or selling wet copiers which were a real pain and expensive. They all turned him down saying there was no market for a plain paper copier.

He eventually ended up at Xerox who were a small company but recognised the worth of this invention. They bought the plans, copyrighted the process and employed one of the best sales teams ever formed. Five years later everyone had a Xerox machine in their office and the process of copying is known as Xeroxing.

It's not just about having an idea, it's about recognising it and knowing how to get the most out of it.

Remeber the record guy who turned down the Beatles?

I admire and respect the guys that think ahead, too many think back. In all fields.
