All the data will still be on the drive. For a drive to fail it probably means the motor has died. A data recovery person could get your data back easy.
I've had to do that at work before.
Also I've saved all the data off a formatted drive. It would be very difficult to completely lose all your data unless the drive has been physically damaged.
