Now, I don't know about design skills and how to compare them. I mean, I guess any advanced student in any design school will have the skills. Now, do they have the creativity? It's like a thread I saw a few days ago where somebody was saying design is too expensive nowadays (when God and Holy Mary knows it's extremely cheap in some cases) because a design takes 2 or 3 hours or whatever. Guess that guy figured out that designing is just open Photoshop and bang! you're a designer. I've Photoshop and even tho I'd love to be able to design anything, I just can't. Hence, I need to pay. Why? Because I'm here for the money, so I don't trust most newcomers until effectively proven, and I don't care about fancy eye candy as long as it converts. Of course, if it looks nice, better yet.
With all that said, I wouldn't ever EVER compare MikeW with Envision's or Bruno or whoever, they're just different. And that's their strength. Most designers here are copycats, I simply avoid them, even tho they cost 1/5 of a good designer. I know in the short run I'll make more going with somebody who knows what to do.
Besides, now I've a designer that costs me half or 1/3 of what MikeW would charge me, and he's the best when it comes to conversions, so what do I care?
