Ok its like this. Lets say you have a store.A that sells apples for like $3. Now, someone comes and builds another store.B near that sells the same apples for $2.50.

Who would you go for? The cheaper one ofcorse. So the store.A is forced to lower their price to compete.

Simple as that.
