real singer, or manufactured talent for the masses?
real singer was the young whitney houston of 20 years ago. there was a very short window of about 3 years when should could out sing any other popular singer in the world. it was a freak of nature, and she was listening to real handlers like clive davis. later she listened to street jigs (ie. bobby brown, etc) who destroyed her body, her voice, and her life.
at this age she could have been one of the premier jazz singers of the world. an artistic tragedy.
luckily a few of us got to see the magic in the 80's. not the most beautiful woman, but my vote for the sexiest in those breathy highs of "saving all my love for you".
goose bumps if you saw it in a live concert.
