America, Land of the Free?

I was sitting in a hotel in Amsterdam, the Netherlands when I heard the news about Congress jamming new opresssive legistation regulating what American adults can do in the homes, their business and their lives.

I took a walk to think it through, I passed churches, shops, marijuana selling coffee shops, absenthe in liquor stores, pornography in a flea market and in shops, prostitutes in their red light window; they are all accepted by the Dutch. Their society is tolerant of all styles of life so long as your lifestyle does not adversly effect another.

Why in the country that claims to be the beacon of democracy, the model for the world; why in the USA, are we being forced into a single mold?

The America I learned about in school was a beacon of opportunity and freedom for the world. Why in our America can we not be allowed to be free responsible adults?

Why in our America does the Republican Party, the party that traditionally stands for individual rights and States rights using federal laws to sieze my rights. Barry Goldwater would be in tears if he saw what has become of his party.

What happened to the America I thought we lived in? The erosion of individual liberty is accelerating and if we the people do not petition our legislators to stop it the land of the free will become a story we whisper to our children so no one else hears our sedition.

Write your congressman, call your congressman, email your congressman. They them you want the right to live your own life as an adult and do not require the government to tell you what to do. If the Dutch can do it why can't Americans?
