There are too many people in the world living in 3rd world conditions. These are natural breeding grounds for disease.
If you think slaughterhouses and marketplaces are horrid in the US, in other countries, especially in asia it goes to the point of horrid plus flat out gross and discusting. Food sanitation and hygiene is practically non-existent. This inevitably leads to all sorts of stuff being picked up and spread around by birds, other animals and then to the people working there.
