"Officials at ICM continue to defend the new domain, saying it would help clean up the $12 billion industry by instituting new rules against nefarious Internet marketing campaigns and other ploys common on some adult sites, such as multiple pop-up windows or hidden redirect scripts that send unwitting surfers to adult websites. The company also has said it would make filtering of adult sites easier and more effective."

"internet marketing campaigns" = spam we have a LAW called can-spam that addresses that, no need for .XXX

"pop-ups", yahoo, google, norton, SP2, firefox, etc.. have popup blockers that have been doing a good job at stopping pop-ups, and those that used them as a revenue stream have felt the pain since SP2 was launched... so no need for .XXX

"hidden redirect scripts".. well those scripts can still be on a .com, .net, IP, .DK, .UL, etc.. .XXX can't stop that... no need for .XXX

"make filtering easier".. not really, if EVERY adult site were in .XXX, sure, but being "voluntary", means swiss cheese protection.. .KIDS would provide 100% blocking, by only allowing in .KIDS approved sites... no need for .XXX

Fight the things that make you go hmmmm!
