completely uninstall your iPod software and all related files, and re-install it

sounds like something on your computer has corrupted your iPod software.

Never had that problem personally, but it sounds like a good place to start.

I seriously doubt it is iPod or Apple that messed things up though -- their software is fucking tight! (and I am a windows guy through and true!)
