P4 3.0Ghz, 2MB Cache

? 100Megabits Unmetered
? Private VLAN
? 5 Useable IPs
? CentOS, Debian, Gentoo, FreeBSD, Windows 2003

$1299/month

Bandwidth: Abovenet/Cogent and in ~45 Days BGP with nLayer communications - wont find a better deal ANYWHERE.

If the above box was capable of sustaining 100MB, you would have to be paying $13/MB to break even. You'd have to have some very hefty commits to get that rate. That is not accounting for the cost of the server. The box may be able to burst that, but not sustain it. The CPU would be saturated, even if you were running a custom httpd and running everything from ramdisk.

The reason someone would host with me as you more eloquently worded it above is experience. Any client can call me at 3am to ask me how to list and free open file handles, or tune their TCP stack, if they became saturated, and I can tell them in 5 seconds, not route them to an "admin" in India.

The web hosting game is about customer service now, not so much about cost anymore.

I would gladly retract my statement though if you could show some numbers that prove me wrong.
