Police bowed to the pressure from the rioters and allowed them to march, which in turn caused catholics to riot. I can't think of any rioting that has been as large and as sustained as the current rioting between then and now.
Probably the most significant i can think of were the riots by catholics on the twelfth of July this year. But they were nowhere near as large or as sustained as the current riots.
