God, no.
Like any poor country, there are dangerous areas. You have to use common sense and not go to some places at night, and not go to other places at all. For the most part, you'll have no business there anyway.
Armed guards are present in all banks, electronic stores, and well basically anywhere that stocks inventory of any value.
Car jackings and home invasions/robberies are the most common crimes you'd have to worry about.
All houses have bars and gates over windows and doors. Generally they're surrounded by large fences with razor wire. More security, less crime.
I've lived here a total of 14 months or so (not all in this stretch) and never been robbed or gotten myself in to any situation I was worried about being robbed or hurt in.
