a necessary modus operandi for video, and OK and shooting hubcaps for a catalog, but for not so good when photographing a girl's eyes.
to get the glamour eyes look of a victoria secret model you must shoot with subdued light on the set so the model's pupils open up. turn down your modeling lights to the minimum you need for framing and blast with bounced strobes or big softboxes.
and then you can play with minimized DOF to highlight the parts of the shot which are important and blur out the tacky model 8 furnishings in the background, or the stretch marks on her belly.
and you will get the "bedroom" eyes look that will get the surfer's heart pumping.
