i agree throwing him on his back and staring him into his eyes until he submits also works. but doesn't that instill fear also? because basicly what your showing him is that your more powerful and not to be fucked with. same result just different action, right?

The problem is that he hasnt properly shown the dog in a way the dog UNDERSTANDS that he is dominant over the dog. If he had done it right in the beginning, he wouldnt have this problem now. Yes, the dog will do things likew this to test who's dominant from time to time. understand that a dog is a pack animal like you pointed out. Yet even in a pack where the alpha dog chain has been clearly established, a dog will test its place in the pack from time to time. It's how the hierarchy works. The dog will be afaid if you hit it, but it still wont really recognize you as dominant. ONLY, the method of rolling it onto its back and holding it there TRULY teaches the dog who is boss. and you dont really hurt the dog when you do it this way.
