I'm not big on the Hybrids. The only one that is acceptable is the Hybrid Accord. If Lexus wasn't just a gussied up Toyota I'd consider the RX 400h. However, the prices don't justify the savings like Shok said.

Diesels are more environmentally friendly than a gasoline powered car of the same type. Diesel is a bit sootier but that is just particulate that precipitates out with little harm to the environment. They produce far less emissions than a Gasoline car and they get great mileage and are virtually maintenence free besides regular oil changes.

Diesel is expensive now too, which frankly is ridiculous because it's essentially a gasoline byproduct. But it's still $0.20 less per gallon than regular here.

Another thing is that in a warm weather climate like Florida where it rarely dips below 50 you don't even need a secondary fuel tank to run on vegetable oil. You can start and run the car on Vegetable oil with no noticable difference in performance. You will have to filter it and I've seen some crazy contraptions people have made to recycle McDonalds fryer oil.

The Diesel engine was originally designed to run off Peanut oil. "Diesel Fuel" came after the invention of the engine which was named after it's designer. An old bus or a dump truck smells to be behind but the new cars aren't like that.

Thanks for the responses thus far. I was wondering if anyone has had maintenence or warranty issues. I've heard that the newer VW aren't as reliable as the old ones. I wanted to see if anyone has any issues there.
