Did you ever think that there could be a positive side to her comment? Or because you sway so much to the left you didn't care to rationalize it?
How about, she was saying, because there were so many poor people down there who couldn't afford a new home, to rebuild their home, to fix up their home, that despite the horrible issue with the hurricane, their homes will now be rebuilt, and they will be able to find possibly better shelter and have a better life than they did before the hurricane due to the rebuilding of the city!
I think that is what was meant by her comment.
