Why do all the really big hurricanes have Russian names?
Category IV hurricanes -- Ivan, Katrina.
While lesser ones like the one they're tracking today that JUST grew big enough to even be considered a hurricane gets the name "Maria"
I get the feeling those who track and name these storms are trying to subliminally promote the old notion of "the big bad evil Russians are the worst hurricanes, while the smallest most un-threatening ones all bear western/american names."
You watch, the next cat-5 hurricane will be named something like "Igor" or "Valerie", "Alexiev", "Olga" (as in Russian Gymnast Olga Korbut), "Anya" or "Vladimir".
