We live northwest of New Orleans and the storm didn't damage our town very much. We are however without electricity, and the last we heard from the power company rep on the local radio station we won't have power for 2-6 weeks.

We packed up the car and headed to my mom's house in Central Florida.
Of course we couldn't take I-10, it's not there anymore, so we headed north to Jackson, MS and then took I-20 east until we got to I-75.

The amount of evacuees is insane, we couldn't find a hotel room until we got to Georgia. There were long ass lines at the gas pumps and the price was higher every time we stopped to fill up. (There was some serious "gouging" going on in Georgia as well)

Anyways, we're all safe and sound at my mother's house and I brought the computer with me so I can get back to work. We're just thankful for two things, 1) That our home wasn't destroyed or damaged in the storm, and 2) That we're not dependent on the local economy to make a living.
I can only imagine how hard it's going to be for the 1.7 million people that have no job to go to because their place of employment was destroyed.....and alot of people can't go back to what's left of their homes for several months. They have to live in hotels (if they were lucky enough to find a room) and don't have any money coming in to pay for essentials. I really feel for those people and feel really lucky that I'm in the position I'm in.

Anyways, if I have outstanding business with you it may be awhile before I can get to it, I hope that given the situation you'll understand.
Glad you and mrs lenny are safe and sound...I don't know you other than a couple of posts where we "oh yeah'd" each other and that ace (mark) at NA told me you're good people, but i was worried about your safety and well being...not sure how safe fl is thougn...
I am still very concerned about everybody still in NO, jefferson parish and along the MS coast...I have spent the last few days at the Red Cross office here in Raleigh on the phones, gave blood and donated $10k (5k in check/5k in materials) and still don't feel like i've done enough... I volunteered to go there and was told sending more people into harms way was not a viable solution, that the national guard would be there soon (though not soon enough in my thinking) to distribute things and evac people and I was denied...but I'm doing what I can...
I finally heard from a good friend that lived just outside La Fite where her family ran a fishing resort/charter company...she is in Austin with some friends, but there are family members she has not heard from since monday and she is worried about them...she going to try to return to La fite on Mon if she can figure out how...she also is concerned about what is left of her occult shoppe in the Quarter as she saw on the news a lot of the looting was going on right by her shoppe...she said enough people in NO know what a gris gris bag means and she hung one on her door when she left for austin on sat night...
welllllllll....so glad that you and mrs lenny are ok...my prayers go out to you, those displaced elsewhere and those that remain, hopefully for not much later....G
