All of the slums have been destroyed and you know damn well that they won't rebuild them. They'll move all of the slum residents to a new slum on the outskirts. Then all of that property will be rebuilt for the more affluent housing tenants.

New Orleans will probably be safe once again once it is rebuilt...I just know that property will go CHEAP during the rebuilding process. It's a good time for people looking to relocate.

lots of truth here.
if you've spent any time in NO you know that much of frame slum buildings were just waiting to fall down anyway. 90% of the french quarter is just old junky buildings not being torn down only because of their historical significance.
for people who have insurance (most property owners) this hurricane will allow them to rebuild, and in 2 years you will see a revitalization of downtown.
and lots of the rif raff will be moved out of town into public housing projects.
sorry, but existing downtown NO was a dirty dangerous toilet and gentrification is a good thing for that town. the town is built on tourism and oil and it's needed a good douching for a long time. this week it got it.
