i don't think it's a religious thing but more a hold on believing in something, anything, to get through the day. the "asking god for help" is just a phrase, more or less. people need to believe in something to help them through an hour, day, month so why not throw that out. the actual thought that a "god", who has never been seen and no one know if this "god" exists, is nothing more then "grabbing onto something (codependency)" to help one make it through horrid times.
i am sure she does attend church and there is no doubt that she does believe that this "god" exists (at this point though how anyone can believe that a god exists after what just happened is something only a psychiatrist/psychologist can really answer) but to say that she is putting prayer above aid is a bit ridiculous. i am sure if you asked her, do you want me to send 100k or take 5 mins to pray to "god" for help (she can only choose one), you can bet your ass that she would say "pray to who".
