Perhaps I'm not so cynical. Yes, they have an image to uphold, but remember shareholders would benefit if profits would rise, however the net effect of increased profits at the cost of ruining public image would probably be irreparable.

No matter what the reason, they are doing the right thing. You know what if they really wanted to gouge they could, and you know what they may pay a fine or some reparation and still be better in the long run.

Remember they are a monopoly in many areas, people wouldn't have a choice.

You have to give them credit for social responsiblity. No one says that they have to be socially responsible.
