I lived in Okinawa for 4 years, absolutely loved it! There really aren't that many rapes, far less then the main land. Of course anytime a rape happens on Oki the news is all over it and tries to turn it into an International incident. The people there love the military, we keep that island alive. The residents mostly complain about the noise around the air bases of all things. If you want to save money, hook up with some military friends and shop on base (if you are not already military yourself). Alcohol is alot cheaper on base and you have a lot more variety to choose from. Where abouts on Oki will you be staying? While you are there you have to get scuba certified, it is very inexpensive and probably the best thing I did while I was there (besides party my ass off). If you have any questions about Okinawa feel free to message me, I know that place like the back of my hand. I'm desperately trying to get back there. It is the best kept secret in the Air Force!
