So the civil war was about slavery. I would recomend a broader field of research if you are really interested in this subject. Please don't just rely on high-school history books. The issue of slavery was NOT the central issue and didn't come in until later. It actually started regarding land, trading and tariff issues.
Please also review the federalist papers regarding the intent of the constitution as regards to states rights.
I'm not trying to be condescending here, I'm merely suggesting that you get a little more info on the subject.
