I have a sneaking suspicion that when the price of gasoline reaches a point where alternative cleaner and renewable fuels become cheap, you'll see those houses get turned into McDonalds. Seriously though, in economics, there's a theory of replacement...when a commodity becomes so expensive that replacements are cheaper, those replacements also hit an economy of scale and efficiency that ensures that their prices become lower and their quality higher.
