BMW's new design philosophy is "eclectic" at best. I wouldn't go so far as to say ugly because it's often the cars that challenge modern design that become the objects of affection for collectors. Some of what were considererd the ugly cars of their time are now timeless classics. However, just by making a car "ugly" doesn't guarantee uniqueness and collectability. Think BMW Isetta. That never was or never will be a good looking car. There have been many horrible designs that were aesthetically obtuse.
