We do, however, share a common heritage with the U.S. when it comes to Native Americans.

The South didnt have a huge population, and thats one of the reasons is used slaves for labor. The north was the industrial hub, and the south was the cotton / agricultural area. There was significantly less population.

It was a small group of people that owned slaves. You think every white guy in the South owned one? Hell no.
