This argument is completely contextual. Franck and Brandon are both right in their own respects.
I personally don't mind using bandwidth if it's worthwhile. However, there's no need to waste it. When you're doing business online for a while you understand concepts well and realize that depending on your source. Targeting and filtering are a means of efficiency and profitability. You can disqualify a lot of non-convertible traffic through some of the things that Brandon does.
For example, let's just say that I can count on Google for 10,000 visitors this month. I want them to be qualified visitors. If they are coming to my site under a false pretense or a misleading ad, their propensity to purchase dives.
It is in my best interest to make sure that they are getting what they are looking for.
On the flip side of the same token a lot of the web business works on bulk traffic. Once this traffic arrives at the site you have an opportunity to sell someone that may or not be interested.
So there is no right or wrong on this subject it's a matter of managing channels and users to maximize each opportunity.
