We all want to do well in this business, and so what I do is scout out good potential webmasters for my program. Do I use a standard form-type letter for the initial contact? Sure I do... and I also include personal information about myself so that anyone I contact can easily contact me back, if they are interested.
However I make sure to find out who I am dealing with, but then again, if they're using half a dozen different nic-handles everywhere, it gets tough to know exactly who is who 100% of the time.
In this case, it's called pro-active marketing, and I'm not justifying myself to anyone on the board about it.
If someone thinks it's spam, then they don't have a clue. So keep the flames coming, add me to your sig, whatever.... It's all good exposure for me, and bad exposure for them.
