Your personality and what makes you "you" is all in your brain. It has been documented many times that people with head injuries develop completely different personalities and their old friends don't even know who they are anymore. Not to mention people who become mentally ill or get alzheimers.

Who you are is your brain and your body. Without it, you cease to exist. It doesn't make the slightest bit of sense to think this supposed personality, that exists in your mind only, will somehow transcend the barrier of life and death. It is man's ego that makes us believe this - we believe we are a superior, god-like creature, when really we're just an intelligent animal, who has the ability to imagine higher powers and comprehend our own mortality, which is both our strength and our downfall...
