The big difference between it and the C version, is that in the php version the cookies are locked in to expire in 7 days, where on the C version you can input them to expire whenever you want. plus the C is much more efficient, but I am not trying to make this a PHP versus C thread. That argument is very old. Guys who write C say C is better, and guys who write php say PHP is better. All I know is that C is what all heavy traffic sites use.
well since php is written in C it's a bunk point. in theory it can't be faster since it's "already C" + one more level of abstraction from the processing unit... the php/perl debate is bigger since they're both on the same level (scripting)
