You are absolutely right it has taken quite a bit of time and effort.

I can only speak for myself, but I wouldn't say that my primary goal was to help noobs make money. What I am trying to do is add value.

It would have been a lot easier to make the gallery myself (or outsource it) and simply donate the funds to a given noob if all I wanted to do was engage in charity.

By doing making the TGP Case Study an open transparent process we add value all the way around.

The sponsors get an opportunity to legitimately promote themselves to a receptive audience.

The winning sponsor (PussyCash in this case) gets excellent PR. They were already giving away the Porsche, and they pay $100/signup for whales already. So for the added cost of a little education and an iPod shuffle ($99 I think) they get not only the PR, but also the sales generated.

We are showing them how to fish not taking them out for sushi.
All of the Noobs who participate learn about making galleries, and can submit those galleries to TGPs whether they win or not. The knowledge, skillset & mentoring are worth much more than some joins.

Those who choose to constructively participate earn goodwill, not only from the noobs, but also from the others involved. Yes, that goodwill and $5 will get you a mocha at your local Starbucks. On the other hand some % of the Noobs may grow into valuable contacts who will always be grateful for those who mentored them. Not to mention the value of 'simple favors' that somebody like myself (let alone some of the power players) might be willing & able to provide.

SleazyDream & Cybercat gain exposure & feedback for their advertising opportunities. If the gallery earnings surpass the cost of purchasing the spot then they have an unbiased, open & detailed reference for potential purchasers. If for some reason it does not, then they either have an example of 'what not to do', or they can use the feedback to adjust their pricing accordingly. This is on top of the exposure and goodwill that Sleazy earned by donating the top spot to be raffled off in the first place.

Everybody involved gains more value than they would have on their own.

What do I get out of giving away the top spot on SleazyDream?
If you can't see it by now let me know, and I will spell it out for you.

Thank you for the excellent question Chadglni.
