It's better to be honest with her... If you can't be honest about this situation, it's really going nowhere anyway.
I had been with my gf for about 3 years and felt like it was just "expected" that I would pay when we went to dinner, movies or even got groceries...
I told her that I felt like she expected me to pay for stuff and she said that because I had been doing it for so long it did sort of just pan out that way, so we agreed to open a joint account.. (i guess if you're dating you could open a joint "jar")
We each put only $100 of our own cash in there each week and the jar is only to be used on stuff that we do together... like dinner, movies, groceries, holidays.
So you still get your own money in your regular account but now there's no feeling like you're getting jibbed.
Screw being a "gentleman".. if she wants you to conform to a 1950's definition of a man, she should conform to a 1950's definition of a woman and get the fuck back into the kitchen.
