virtual host performance monitoring tool?

Hi,

I feel like the server my virtual hosting account is on is not performing so well lately. I've experienced a responseless database more than once, and the cpu is 0% idle nearly all of the time.

Well, obviously I don't like this situation and I would like to go talk to my hosting provider about it. Before I do this though, I would really like to have some hard evidence - numbers don't lie.

That's where you guys come in (I hope). I need some tool that gathers statistical data about my server's performance over a certain period of time. Of course there's masses of server monitoring tools out there, but since I am on a virtual hosting account (with solely user permissions) I don't need an overkill. I just want a simple tool that checks database response times or any other representative property that I can confront my host with. My host runs FreeBSD.

Any suggestions? Thanks!
