I'm a sociology student in Israel. there are a lot of them here, and this is my take on the subject:
the european jews who came to the US on the 20's all settled in prosperus locations. they worked very hard as not-qualified workers cause they believed in 'the dream'.
later on, when they had enough dough, the economic system took care of the rest.
if you have money, the us is the #1 place in the world for doubling the ammount in the shortest time. the capitalist adminastrations all support low taxes, private schooling, low fed. investments.
this is why in america the richer are always getting richer and the poorer are having a big problem(in general) more than other places in the west.
it's simply the system. nothing genetic that's for sure.
some jews say it's because we have 1000 years of literacy and it improves something. i dont fall for it.
in eastern europe most jews were low-profession, not educated at all and living in small primitive villages. so a lot of the myth refers actually to the US and western europe.
there are more reasons, but the economic system seems the most reasonable to me.
