When Cds first came out the record industry charged $20.00 for them and about $8.00 for a tape. They said the price was due to the cost of the blank Cds. Now they get the Cds for less than a penny each and the price is even higher.
I was reading somewhere that they want to start a site where you can download music and pay per song. The amazing thing was that they wanted the mp3 to expire if you didnt pay your membership dues. Who wants to pay a monthly fee to listen to their favorite song ? Its not good enough to just pay them, they want you to pay them over and over.
I have no problem with buying mp3 from a record company. Its the best format, you never lose it, and it never wears out. The only bitch is I dont think the recording industry wants that. My guess is that a large part of their income depends on their product failing so you have to buy again. They also probably make alot of money by bundling one good song with ten lame songs.
If they would just offer a reasonable service they could probably make great cash off the net and from Cd sales. People thought free radio would kill the music industry too, but it didnt.
