theres more to sickle cell than you think
for places where malaria exists, having the sickle cell gene (heterozygotes, that is, a person with a normal copy, and a sickle cell copy) actually increases your chance of surviving and producing offspring. thats why its not going away.
for places where malaria DOESNT exist, the sickle cell population is going down, just as predicted
