Well, a green card simply means I'm a permanent resident in the US. That's pretty much the same as being a citizen, except that you can't become President one day Damn.

And now, even if I wanted to apply for citizenship in a year or two, I can't, because if I accept another citizenship I will lose my German one.

As for the benefits - I don't care much about the taxes and that sort of stuff - I'm thinking about the opportunity to live in any EU country I want. My gf and I were always planning on moving to Spain, and now it's going to be easier than ever (once we get married she will be able to work, and eventually become a permanent resident). My first visit to the EU as a citizen will be a week later when we travel Greece for a month. So fucking great.
