Yuan used to be pegged at 8.28Y/USD, but now is allowed to float in a very tight area around 8.11Y/USD. Depends on the time this happened, but would probably be around 10000/8.11 ~= 1,233USD.
You might be tempted to think it was a good deal, but I doubt the daughter would agree.
