"Temp Agencies" in America are places that can get you factory and clerical work and yes, they call you to get you a job but the jobs usually last longer than a day...You also have to pass some kind of test with the agency before they'll get you a job.
But there's the lower end of the spectrum called "Day Labor" which is a temporary agency that deals in the lowest of low jobs...Most of the workers are failures, ex-cons, or drug addicts and most of the jobs are menial jobs that don't require long term commitments to workers. Those jobs you gotta show up for to get hired on the spot and you can show up to work drunk or high if you want as long as you do your job.
