Bullshit. The south voted Democrat because the Republicans were the party of big business. Once Republicans "found Jesus" and started showing up at NASCAR races they became "good people".
Southerners base their votes on important things, like getting rid of a Democrat governer for a Republican one because the Democrat supports letting the people vote whether to change the contested Confederate flag as the state flag.

fuck it gets old correcting you ignorant kids.

the south always voted democrat because the south used to be extremely poor and the people wanted massive social programs. As a result, 20 years ago, you couldn't get elected to dog catcher in the south unless you were a democrat.

As business and industry grew along with communication sources, middle class citizens began to realize conservative values.

In the south, Nursing homes and college dorms are filled with democrats, everyone else is more conservative than your average liberal.

Its a common misconception that backwoods southern rednecks vote repulican. Those people still vote democrats along with the inner cities which in most cases are made up of a majority of minorities. LOL

The surburbs of the cities create the red states.
