What you fail to comprehend is that helmets contribute to accidents at least as much (if not more) than the injuries they might prevent.
They cause fatigue, impairment of sight and hearing. Full faced helmets are the worst.
I remember when they first forced us to start wearing them I almost got in a wreck within the first week because the helmet caused me to not be able to hear a car that came racing up past me on the right.
It was only at the last second that I happened to catch a glimpse of it in my mirror and I avoided colliding with it.
It scared the living crap out of me.
