I wasnt entirely in the same boat a few years ago, but I was around 215 at around 6'1-2". Started hitting the gym, and just cut out junk food like soda, high-sugar, ate more home cooked food like chicken, and after about 1-2 years lost the weight, since then I've kept it off, replaced it with muscle, and now I can indulge and eat whatever I want and as long as I keep up my overall health it doesnt affect me which is great. Im at 165-170lbs now, all muscle ;)
Just goes to show you that its very do-able, and the results and benefits are definitely worth that initial effort.
