Insert the XP CD, boot from it. Go through it like you were to install it again, but instead of formating or deleting the partition, you want to repair it. I'm not sure exactly which screen it is, but windows will repair your current installation and add any files that may be missing or corupt. It's always worked for me so the best of luck to you.
