Save his money and get something used or used with factory warrenty. A car is nothing more than another tool we use in our lives. It only needs to run well, have heat and air, be fuel efficient, and fit what needs to be moved. Anything more and you are generally just wasting money.
If he really see's a car as some sort of status symbol he should still buy used and take some of the money saved and seek some self esteme counceling. You really should not give a rats ass about what others think of you.
