your making this stuff compicated, its not complicated at all.
some rules to live by:
1: dont care about what the other guy is doing
2: nothing is written in stone and there is no industry standard
3: start your site, then adjust as you get feed back from customers
4: dont take advice on a pay site from "webmasters" who do not run one.
this stuff is not complicated, go with your instinct and the direction you want your business to go.
